Presidential election: result and voting-day timeline

Election: 25 October 2026 · Official reports: 25–26 October · Added to this edition: 26 October

The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) announced Lula’s re-election with 51.79% of valid votes, against 48.21% for Flávio Bolsonaro.

On voting day, Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Cristiano Zanin ordered voting extended until 19:00 Brasília time. The TSE subsequently clarified that the extension applied only where voting had not already ended at 17:00; closed voting machines were not reopened.

São Paulo’s electoral court reported learning of the decision through the press around 17:00, confirming it with the TSE at 17:16 and notifying the state’s 393 electoral judges at 17:18. By then, approximately 80% of the state’s polling sections had closed. The court received formal notification by email at 18:16.

These are the result and implementation timeline reported by the electoral authorities. For business planning, distinguish the election outcome from any subsequent enacted policy changes.

New publication dates are not always implementation dates. Payroll, HR, banking and trade teams should identify who is affected, preserve evidence and apply each change only when its stated conditions are met.

Suggested actions are Ewaider analysis. Confirm the applicable conditions before changing payroll settings, quota evidence, regulated payment products or trade procedures.
