Foreign-currency accounts: prepare for 1 October

Banco Central Resolution BCB No. 575 expands eligibility for foreign-currency deposit accounts in Brazil to specified categories, including exporters of goods, Brazilian private legal entities with external debt, Brazilian companies with direct nonresident ownership, and certain nonresident lenders or direct investors.
What treasury teams should confirm
- Whether the Brazilian entity falls within an eligible category.
- Whether its authorized bank offers the account and which documents it requires.
- The permitted flows and required international-capital records.
- Accounting, foreign-exchange, access and reconciliation controls before use.
Eligibility under the rule does not mean every institution must offer the account. The operating model should be agreed before transactions begin.
Legal status: binding Banco Central regulation, issued 18 June 2026 and effective 1 October 2026.
